Strontium82BreakthroughChecker
Strontium-82 Breakthrough
Utility description: Strontium-82 Breakthrough
Strontium-82 Breakthrough Checker — Strontium-82 Breakthrough Analyzer (Rb-82 Generators)
ℹ️ Utility checks strontium breakthrough compliance with USP <823>:
• Sr-82 Limit: ≤20 Bq per 1 MBq Rb-82
• Sr-85 Limit: ≤500 Bq per 1 MBq Rb-82
⚠️ CRITICAL: Exceeding Sr-82 limit requires immediate removal of generator from service!
Strontium accumulates in bones and irradiates bone marrow.
Usage:
Strontium82BreakthroughChecker.exe → demo mode (console output)
Strontium82BreakthroughChecker.exe input.csv output.json → evaluate your data
Input format:
BatchNumber,Rb82ActivityMBq,Sr82ActivityBq,Sr85ActivityBq,ElutionVolumeMl,TimeSinceCalibrationHours,GeneratorID
Example:
RUBID-CHECK-2026-001,1500.0,15.0,100.0,50.0,0.5,GEN-SR82-XYZ-099
— WHY IS THIS NEEDED?
Rubidium-82 generators use Strontium-82 (T½=25 days) as the parent isotope.
During elution, the goal is to obtain pure Rubidium-82 (T½=75 sec).
However, small amounts of Strontium may "break through" the column.
⚠️ CRITICAL:
• Sr-82 is a long-lived isotope that metabolizes like calcium and accumulates in bone tissue.
• This creates significant and prolonged radiation burden to the patient's red bone marrow.
• USP <823> sets strict limits:
- Sr-82: not more than 0.02 kBq (20 Bq) per 1 MBq Rb-82.
- Sr-85: not more than 0.5 kBq (500 Bq) per 1 MBq Rb-82.
• Breakthrough test must be performed regularly (usually daily or before first use of the day).
Key features:
• Automatic calculation of activity ratios (Bq/MBq)
• Comparison with regulatory limits (USP/Ph.Eur.)
• Clear PASS/FAIL indication for generator release decision
Critical parameters:
• Sr-82/Rb-82 ratio: ≤20 Bq/MBq
• Sr-85/Rb-82 ratio: ≤500 Bq/MBq
💡 Usage tips:
1. To measure Sr-82/Sr-85, a dose calibrator with ionization chamber and lead shield (6-10 mm thick) is used, which absorbs Rb-82 positrons/annihilation photons but transmits Strontium gamma radiation.
2. If result exceeds limit, generator must be immediately taken out of clinical use and disposed of as radioactive waste.
3. Records of breakthrough test must be kept in the Nuclear Medicine department quality log.
⚠️ Note: Unlike other quality tests, this test determines the VERY POSSIBILITY of using the generator. A positive result (exceeding limit) is an absolute contraindication for administering the drug to a patient.input.csv
