Strontium-89 Chloride Quality Checker — Strontium-89 chloride solution (Metastron®) (Ph. Eur., USP <823>)

ℹ️ The utility checks activity, radiochemical purity, strontium-85 impurity, pH, chlorides, endotoxins, sterility, heavy metals, residual solvents.
ℹ️ Does not use machine learning — rule-based logic only.
⚠️ CRITICAL: Strontium-85 (≤0.02%) — impurity with 64.8-day half-life! Increases bone marrow radiation burden! Strontium-89 metabolizes like calcium — strict impurity control is mandatory!

Usage:
Strontium89ChlorideQualityChecker.exe → demo mode (console output)
  Strontium89ChlorideQualityChecker.exe input.csv output.json → evaluate your data

Input format:
BatchNumber,ActivityMBqPerMl,RadiochemicalPurityPercent,Strontium85ImpurityPercent,pH,ChloridesMgPerMl,EndotoxinsEU,SterilityTest,HeavyMetalsPPM,EthanolPPM,AcetonePPM

Example (sterility: 0=sterile, 1=contaminated):

— WHY IS THIS NEEDED?
Strontium-89 chloride solution (Metastron®) — radiopharmaceutical for palliative therapy of painful bone metastases in prostate cancer:
• Beta emitter with 50.5-day half-life
• Calcium mimicry — selectively accumulates in areas of increased bone metabolism (metastases)
• Intravenous administration delivering radiation directly to painful sites
⚠️ CRITICAL:
• Activity 148 MBq/mL ±10% — ensures accurate dosing (4 mCi or 148 MBq per administration) for effective pain relief
• Radiochemical purity ≥95.0% — guarantees delivery of beta radiation specifically to bone metastases, not other organs
• Strontium-85 ≤0.02% — CRITICAL! Strontium-85 has 64.8-DAY half-life (vs 50.5 days for 89Sr). Even minor impurity creates ADDITIONAL CHRONIC RADIATION BURDEN TO BONE MARROW, increasing myelosuppression risk!
• pH 4.0–7.0 — critical for blood compatibility during intravenous administration
• Endotoxins ≤175 EU/vial — critical for intravenous administration! Exceeding causes pyrogenic reactions
• Sterility — MANDATORY for all parenteral forms! Contamination = unfit for use
⚠️ Special attention: Strontium-89 METABOLIZES LIKE CALCIUM! This means it accumulates not only in metastases but also in normal bone tissue, including bone marrow. Radionuclide impurities with long half-lives (like 85Sr) are especially dangerous as they increase radiation burden to bone marrow without therapeutic benefit. Strontium-85 impurity control is critical for minimizing myelosuppression risk. Endotoxins tested by LAL method. Sterility — membrane filtration method (USP <71>).
Critical parameters:
• Activity: 148 MBq/mL ±10% (133.2–162.8 MBq/mL)
• Radiochemical purity: ≥95.0%
• Strontium-85: ≤0.02% (LONG HALF-LIFE 64.8 DAYS!)
• pH: 4.0–7.0 (blood compatibility)
• Chlorides: ≤10 mg/mL
• Endotoxins: ≤175 EU/vial (LAL test)
• Sterility: no microbial growth
• Heavy metals: ≤10 ppm
• Residual solvents: ethanol ≤5000 ppm, acetone ≤5000 ppm
⚠️ Note: Utility is designed for quality control of FINISHED INJECTABLE SOLUTION. All parameters comply with parenteral form requirements for palliative therapy of bone metastases. Strontium-85 control performed by gamma spectrometry (85Sr emits 514 keV gamma rays). Radiochemical purity determined by TLC or HPLC with radiodetection. Activity measured using calibrated ionization chamber.

10. QA/QC, CSV and change control

  • Before production use, the client records executable version, checksum, specification/monograph version, test CSV, expected JSON and IQ/OQ results.
  • Column names must not be changed without updating the validator and test scenarios.
  • The source CSV, output.json and utility version should be stored together as an evidence package.
  • Any change in control rules must go through change control and repeated OQ scenario verification.
