Utility description: Polymer ID EVA

Polymer ID EVA — Identification and Composition Control of Ethylene Vinyl Acetate (EVA)

ℹ️ Utility checks critical identification parameters of EVA copolymer:
   • Correlation coefficient with reference IR spectrum (≥0.98)
   • Presence of characteristic absorption bands:
     - 1740 cm⁻¹ (C=O stretching of vinyl acetate ester group)
     - 1240 cm⁻¹ (C-O stretching of acetate group)
     - 2920 cm⁻¹ (CH2/CH3 stretching of polyethylene chain)
   • Vinyl Acetate Content (VA): Target value ±2%

⚠️ CRITICAL: Missing 1740 cm⁻¹ peak indicates absence of vinyl acetate (pure polyethylene).
VA content deviation >2% alters mechanical properties and drug release kinetics.

Usage:
Polymer_ID_EVA.exe → demo mode (console output)
 Polymer_ID_EVA.exe input.csv output.json → evaluate your data

Input format:
BatchNumber,IrCorrelation,Peak1740Intensity,Peak1240Intensity,PeakCHIntensity,VaContentPercent

Example:
 EVA-MED-2026-001,0.995,0.65,0.82,1.20,18.5

— WHY IS THIS NEEDED?
Ethylene Vinyl Acetate (EVA) is an important biocompatible polymer used in medicine:
• Matrices for transdermal therapeutic systems (patches).
• Implants for controlled drug release.
• Components of medical devices (tubing, catheters).
• EVA properties (flexibility, permeability, melting point) critically depend on Vinyl Acetate (VA) content.

⚠️ CRITICAL:
• IR spectroscopy is the primary method for polymer identification per pharmacopoeia.
• Ratio of peak intensities at 1740 cm⁻¹ (C=O) and 2920 cm⁻¹ (CH) allows quantitative estimation of VA content.
• Standard medical grades of EVA contain 18–40% VA.
• Low VA content makes the polymer stiffer (closer to PE), high VA makes it more elastic and transparent.

Key features:
• Confirmation of copolymer chemical structure.
• Estimation of key monomer (vinyl acetate) content.
• Detection of material substitution (e.g., with regular polyethylene).

Critical parameters:
• IR Correlation: ≥0.98
• Peak 1740 cm⁻¹ (C=O): Present (>0.1 abs)
• Peak 1240 cm⁻¹ (C-O): Present (>0.1 abs)
• VA Content: Target ±2% (e.g., 18%)

💡 Usage tips:
1. Use ATR (Attenuated Total Reflectance) method for rapid analysis of films or pellets.
2. For accurate VA % determination, use a calibration curve based on A1740/A2920 absorbance ratio.
3. EVA may contain additives (antioxidants, slip agents) giving extra peaks, but main polymer peaks must dominate.
4. Store reference spectra for each EVA grade used.
5. If VA content deviates significantly, check supplier documentation — a different grade may have been supplied.

⚠️ Note: EVA does not have a strict molecular weight in the context of identification, but molecular weight distribution affects melt viscosity. IR method controls specifically the chemical composition (monomer ratio).
