Utility description: Losartan Potassium Impurity Checker

Losartan Potassium Impurity Checker — Control of Losartan Potassium Impurities

ℹ️ Utility checks critical purity parameters of losartan potassium:
   • Assay content: 98.0–102.0%
   • Impurity A (Losartan Carboxylic Acid / EXP-3174): ≤0.5%
   • Impurity B (Biphenylmethanol derivative): ≤0.5%
   • Impurity C (Chloro-losartan): ≤0.5%
   • Sum of other unknown impurities: ≤1.0%
   • Loss on Drying (LOD): ≤2.0%

⚠️ CRITICAL: Impurity A (Acid) >0.5% → oxidation process violation!
High moisture (LOD >2.0%) → risk of hydrolysis and caking!

Usage:
LosartanPotassiumImpurityChecker.exe → demo mode (console output)
 LosartanPotassiumImpurityChecker.exe input.csv output.json → evaluate your data

Input format:
BatchNumber,AssayPercent,ImpurityAPercent,ImpurityBPercent,ImpurityCPercent,OtherImpuritiesPercent,LossOnDryingPercent

Example:
 LOS-K-2026-001,99.5,0.15,0.10,0.05,0.30,0.8

— WHY IS THIS NEEDED?
Losartan Potassium is an Angiotensin II Receptor Blocker (ARB) for hypertension treatment.
• Synthesis involves alkylation and oxidation steps, leading to specific impurities.
• Impurity A (EXP-3174) is an active metabolite formed during tetrazole oxidation. It must be strictly limited in the substance.
• Impurity B is the unoxidized alcohol (precursor).
• Losartan Potassium is hygroscopic, so moisture control is critical for stability.

⚠️ CRITICAL:
• Impurity A ≤0.5% — excess indicates incomplete purification or over-oxidation.
• Impurity B ≤0.5% — indicates completeness of the oxidation reaction.
• Total impurities ≤1.0% (or sum of all ≤2.0% depending on monograph version) — general purity indicator.
• LOD ≤2.0% — losartan potassium actively absorbs moisture, affecting dosing and powder flow.

Key features:
• Separate control of key synthetic impurities (acid, alcohol, chloro-derivative).
• Hygroscopicity control (LOD).
• Compliance with Ph. Eur., USP, and RF SP requirements.

Critical parameters:
• Assay: 98.0–102.0%
• Impurity A (Acid): ≤0.5%
• Impurity B (Alcohol): ≤0.5%
• Impurity C (Chloro): ≤0.5%
• Other Impurities: ≤1.0%
• Loss on Drying: ≤2.0%

💡 Usage tips:
1. Use gradient HPLC method to separate polar acid and non-polar losartan.
2. Detection usually at 250 nm or 220 nm.
3. For LOD, use thermogravimetric analysis or vacuum drying at 105°C.
4. Impurity A (EXP-3174) is pharmacologically active but considered an impurity in losartan substance.
5. Store substance in airtight containers with desiccant.

⚠️ Note: Losartan Potassium contains a tetrazole ring which may give tautomeric forms, but under HPLC conditions they usually do not separate or elute together. Main focus is on oxidation and alkylation products.
