FTIRIdentityQualityChecker
FTIR Identity
FTIR Identity Quality Checker — Substance Identification by IR Spectroscopy
ℹ️ Utility checks critical parameters of IR spectral identification (Ph. Eur. 2.2.24 / USP <854>):
• Hit Quality Index (HQI / Correlation): ≥0.95
• Identification: Matched material name must strictly equal expected material
• Specificity: Difference between best and second-best match >0.05
• Peak Shift: ≤2.0 cm-1
⚠️ CRITICAL: Low HQI (<0.95) or name mismatch → BATCH REJECTION!
Risk of using wrong raw material or counterfeit.
Usage:
FTIRIdentityQualityChecker.exe → demo mode (console output)
FTIRIdentityQualityChecker.exe input.csv output.json → evaluate your data
Input format:
BatchNumber,ExpectedMaterial,CorrelationIndex,MatchedMaterial,SecondBestCorrelation,KeyPeakShift
Example:
FTIR-API-2026-001,Paracetamol,0.995,Paracetamol,0.820,0.5
— WHY IS THIS NEEDED?
IR spectroscopy is the primary method for identification ("fingerprint") in pharmaceutical analysis.
• Allows reliable distinction of chemically similar substances (polymorphs, hydrates, isomers).
• Rapid, non-destructive method ideal for incoming warehouse control.
• Using spectral libraries automates the process and reduces operator error risk.
• Compliance with GMP and pharmacopoeial requirements for raw material identification.
⚠️ CRITICAL:
• HQI ≥0.95 — standard threshold for confident identification of pure substances.
• Strict name matching (Expected == Matched) eliminates method selection error risk.
• Control of difference with second-best match (Specificity Delta) ensures spectrum uniqueness.
• Peak shifts may indicate polymorphic form change or presence of impurities.
Key features:
• Automatic check of spectrum compliance with library reference.
• Specificity and peak position control.
• Integration with warehouse management systems and LIMS.
Critical parameters:
• Correlation Index (HQI): >= 0.95
• Name Match: True
• Specificity Delta: > 0.05
• Peak Shift: <= 2.0 cm-1
💡 Usage tips:
1. Regularly update spectral library by adding references from different suppliers.
2. For ATR method, ensure tight contact of sample with crystal.
3. Clean instrument window before each measurement.
4. If HQI is low, visually inspect sample and repeat measurement.
5. Use this utility for primary screening; confirm results with other methods if in doubt.
⚠️ Note: IR method is sensitive to sample physical state (particle size, polymorphic form). Ensure reference spectra in library are obtained for the same physical form as tested raw material.input.csv

URS & FS — FTIR Identity
This document describes the user requirements and functional specification for FTIRIdentityQualityChecker. The utility is intended for QC laboratory use as a rule-based check of data prepared from an instrument, LIMS, ELN, MES or an approved input.csv.
URS — User Requirements Specification
| ID | Requirement | Criticality | Acceptance criterion |
|---|---|---|---|
| URS-001 | The utility shall accept input.csv with approved columns: BatchNumber, ExpectedMaterial, HQI, MatchedMaterial, SecondBestHQI, PeakShift. | High | The CSV file is processed without manual header editing. |
| URS-002 | The utility shall perform deterministic evaluation for “FTIR Identity” without machine learning. | High | The same input data produce the same JSON result. |
| URS-003 | The utility shall validate mandatory fields, numeric formats, flags, ranges and domain plausibility. | High | Schema and conversion errors are explicitly reported. |
| URS-004 | The utility shall generate output.json with PASS / WARNING / FAIL statuses, source values, warnings and failures. | High | The JSON result is suitable for review, deviation investigation and integration. |
| URS-005 | The documentation shall support IQ/OQ/PQ or CSV/CSA verification. | Medium | URS/FS, CSV/JSON contract and test scenarios are supplied with the utility. |
input.csv contract
| # | Field | Sample | Purpose |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | BatchNumber | FTIR-API-2026-001 | Input parameter for deterministic QC evaluation. |
| 2 | ExpectedMaterial | Paracetamol | Input parameter for deterministic QC evaluation. |
| 3 | HQI | 0.995 | Input parameter for deterministic QC evaluation. |
| 4 | MatchedMaterial | Paracetamol | Input parameter for deterministic QC evaluation. |
| 5 | SecondBestHQI | 0.820 | Input parameter for deterministic QC evaluation. |
| 6 | PeakShift | 0.5 | Input parameter for deterministic QC evaluation. |
FS — Functional Specification
| ID | Function | Implementation |
|---|---|---|
| FS-001 | CSV import | Read input.csv; validate header, column count and encoding. |
| FS-002 | Schema validation | Check required fields and permitted input values. |
| FS-003 | Rule engine | Apply domain rules, limits and system suitability/specification checks described in the source utility description. |
| FS-004 | Status aggregation | Produce final status: FAIL for critical failure, WARNING for non-critical deviation, PASS for conformance. |
| FS-005 | JSON export | Write machine-readable output.json for LIMS/ELN/MES and QA/QC review. |
OQ/PQ scenarios
- OQ-001: a valid sample row shall be processed without schema error.
- OQ-002: a missing mandatory column shall produce a schema error.
- OQ-003: a non-numeric value in a numeric field shall produce a conversion error.
- OQ-004: a critical parameter outside the limit shall produce
FAILor a critical finding. - PQ-001: user real batches shall be checked with retention of
input.csv,output.json, utility version and checksum.
